NPL-Training for Dimensional Metrology

Using precision measurement tools
correctly could save your business money

NPL Training is the UK’s only independent industry-recognised
measurement training programme. It can help businesses:

  • Reduce waste
  • Enable better-informed decisions
  • Remove the need for expensive technical support
  • Reduce operational mistakes
  • Provide hands on training
  • Ensure post assessment availability
  • Provide personal career development via the only nationally
    recognised qualification in metrology

Understanding the principles of measurement can lead to better decisions on product purchasing, reduced need for expensive technical support and reduced operational mistakes with expensive consequences. A better understanding of measurement will reduce the risks to your business.

The NPL-Training for Dimensional Metrology is divided into four levels, covering measurement users to measurement strategy definers, always through a practical hands-on approach:

  • Level 1 - Measurement User
Anyone who touches basic hand tool measurement, designer awareness and as a stepping stone to level 2
  • Level 2 - Measurement Applier
uses co-ordinate measuring equipment or surface table measurement and as a stepping stone to level 3
  • Level 3 - Measurement Developer
Advanced co-ordinate measuring system programmer / user, and capable of developing measuring plan / validating measurement equipment and process
  • Level 4 - Measurement Definer
Chief Metrologist and business planner of your metrology

‘As a company who sells dimensional measuring equipment of all types we see the day to day problems that this framework sets out to tackle.

Bad measurement practice and poor underpinning skills knowledge are prevalent and the cost of measurement is starting to be recognised as being too high in most companies.

By spreading measurement best practice and knowledge these costs can be attacked and measurement effectively managed’.
Ian Wilcox.
